SGF2022: Roguelite Shooter Witchfire is Coming to Early Access

Key Art for Witchfire

The season of new game announcements is upon us as June marks the month of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. This year we can expect to hear exciting announcements from AAA studios and indie studios alike, starting with Witchfire, a roguelite, dark-fantasy shooter from Poland-based studio The Astronauts.

First announced at the Game Awards in 2017, Witchfire is a game that pits dangerous and terrifying witches against the Church. As a Witch Hunter serving the Vatican, you will be armed with an arsenal of weapons and magic powerful enough to take down these enemies. There will be customizable options as well as other RPG elements. You will traverse a semi open world setting befitting the “dark fantasy” genre.

Witchfire is a dream project for us. After The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, we’re back to familiar shooter territory, but with the benefit of 2022 graphics and design. Now we’re able to bring our dark fantasies to life with spine-tingling realism!”

The Astronauts Creative Director and Co-Founder, Adrian Chmielarz (press release)

Even though Witchfire has taken 5 years to develop, the 9-person development team at The Astronauts promise that the game is well worth the wait. The game will hit Early Access later this year through the Epic Games Store. At this time, Witchfire has only been announced for PC.

If you are familiar with and have enjoyed games like Painkiller, Bulletstorm, or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, then Witchfire might be just the indie game for you. You can watch the trailer below and see for yourself how gorgeous this game looks. There are also a few screenshots that showcase the FPS perspective and enemy types you will encounter. It’s very impressive work coming from a small team of developers.

We will keep you updated when the Early Release date is announced.
